"White sounds” is an innovative musical project initiated by singer Leila Alijeva in order to bring together into a unified sound the cultural canons of two countries – ancient Latvian folk verses or dainas with the Azeri mugam. So the dainas are reset in an entirely new foundation of deep values. The project debuted last year at the Artelis Musical Theatre during the 2012 White Nights festival, but has also been heard in Baku with Azerbaijani musicians in honor of Latvian Independence Day and at other Latvian community events in Azerbaijan. Leila has been studying the mugam style of vocal arts at the National Conservatory of Azerbaijan, having previously followed jazz studies from Jolanta Gulbe and Deniss Paškevičs.
